March 20 Crawford, TX- Texas' beautiful hill country and its inhabitants provided a surreal backdrop to the largest protest ever held in "The Homeland" of the "Western White House". Presidential candidate Ralph Nader, along with award winning talk show host, film maker and author Alex Jones gave speeches that electrified protesters - including those that didn't support either Nader's or Jones' right to attend the rally. Because of the controversy surrounding both Nader's and Jones' appearances, political performance art group, The Intelligence Community, was forced to procure a separate permit for Nader and Jones that began at 5 p.m.

TIC rally; Crawford protesters call for end to war

At 70, the lifelong military man joined in his first anti-war march, walking solemnly from Tonkawa Park toward the only Crawford intersection with a traffic light. With his left hand, the Austin-area resident carried a front corner of an empty flag-draped casket. The casket, Vee said, represented the more than 560 American soldiers who have died in the war that President Bush ordered one year and one day ago with the allied attack on Iraq.
Nader came to Crawford in search of support and petition signatures in his drive to have his name placed on the state's 2004 presidential ballot. He was not welcomed by several in the crowd who yelled, "Don't run, Ralph." But most received his anti-war, anti-Bush message with enthusiasm.

Festivities begin 4 pm with Ralph Nader and Alex Jones at 7 pm. Also there will be musical guests Shanghai 5 and a performance by The Intelligence Community. Nader plans stop in Bush's hometown of Crawford

From 5-9 p.m., a Dallas-based "performance activist" troupe, The Intelligence Community, will sponsor its own anti-war rally with a different set of musicians and guest speakers.
Lori Theis, former state chairwoman in Oklahoma for Nader's 2000 run for president, now works with The Intelligence Community, which asked Nader to speak at its event. Theis said Nader will speak at the end of the first rally to help segue into the second.
The second rally will culminate with a talk by controversial, Austin-based conspiracy theorist and radio host Alex Jones at 7 p.m.
Reid Robinson, an organizer of the second event, said Jones will discuss the connections of "blood and oil" between the two major party presidential candidates — Bush and Democrat John Kerry.
Robinson vowed the evening rally would prove "a little more radical" than the first.
"We're trying to raise the festival atmosphere," he said, "and make it a rock 'n' roll show for everyone."

Texas governor blames enemies for rumors

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has gone public in an Austin interview to deny his marriage is breaking up, blaming political enemies for spreading the rumor.
Perry told the Austin American-Statesman he was forced to speak out because the rumor has become widespread. There's been gossip about Perry caught in an act of infidelity, a possible divorce, and even a resignation.

"It's OK to be Gay, Governor Perry"

About 20 people gathered at the Governor's Mansion today at 10:00 am with signs reading "It's OK to be gay, Guv" and "legalize gay marriage."
The protest was in response to rumors swirling around the capitol that Governor Rick Perry was caught by his wife with another man. Protestors pointed to the fact that Perry, a Republican, has championed anti-gay legislation such as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Dallas City Council condemns USA Patriot Act

Dallas on Wednesday became one of nation's largest cities to formally condemn sections of the federal USA Patriot Act as unconstitutional and a threat to the civil liberties it says it defends.
The vote came after a highly emotional two-hour debate among council members and audience members.
"They say the majority of people support the Patriot Act," council member James Fantroy whispered into his microphone. "But I remember when the majority was for slavery. I remember when the majority was for segregation.
"The majority is not always right."
"I never expected it to pass," added Randeep Walia, a Dallas resident who attended the debate. "This will give more momentum to the larger effort."
The council will transmit the resolution to leaders such as President Bush and Attorney General John Ashcroft.
