Kerry slams Saudi prince for making "Zionist" link to terrorism

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) on Wednesday branded as "outrageous" remarks by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz linking terror attacks in the kingdom to "Zionist hands."
At a news conference Tuesday, Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal was asked to explain a reference by Prince Abdullah to the "Zionist hands" he said were behind the terror attacks that began a year ago in Saudi Arabia.
"It is no secret that extremist Zionist elements ... are waging a fierce campaign against Saudi Arabia," leveling "false accusations and fabricated slanders" at the kingdom, the foreign minister said.

Bush says West Bank belongs to Israel

In a historic policy shift, President Bush on Thursday endorsed Israel's plan to hold on to part of the West Bank in any final peace settlement with the Palestinians. Bush also ruled out Palestinian refugees returning to Israel, bringing strong criticism from the Palestinians.

Israeli Prosecutors Recommend Charging Sharon

Israel's chief prosecutor has drafted an indictment against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in a long-running corruption scandal that could drive him from office, Israel's Channel 2 television said on Saturday.
Sharon has faced a public backlash over the past months over allegations of corruption and misconduct regarding multiple scandals. Israeli police are currently conducting investigations of the cases and Sharon denies involvement in all of them.

PNG to end Manus Island detention deal

Papua New Guinea's Immigration Minister says the country is not planning to renew an agreement with Australia for the operation of the Manus Island detention centre.
Palestinian Aladdin Sisalem has been the centre's only detainee for more than six months.
He has been there since late 2002, when he was intercepted trying to reach Australia through the Torres Strait.
He has been granted refugee status by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which is now seeking to have him resettled in another country.
Mr Sisalem has been told officially that he can go and do what he pleases on Manus Island, as long as he does not leave.
One local newspaper report says that will not be much of a change, quoting Manus residents saying Mr Sisalem has been mingling with residents and frequenting parties and the local hotel.
Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone has spent the past couple of weeks fending off claims the centre is being kept open solely to detain Mr Sisalem, at a cost of $4 million last year.ABC Australia

Red Cross slams Israel barrier

The International Committee of the Red Cross has condemned Israel's building of a barrier in the West Bank as "contrary" to international law.
The aid agency said the barrier, whose proposed route cuts into Palestinian areas, went "far beyond what is permissible for an occupying power".BBC

Prosecutors consider charging Sharon

In a move that could dramatically shake up the government, the Justice Ministry will decide in the coming weeks whether to press charges against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in a burgeoning corruption case following the indictment Wednesday of businessman and Likud kingpin David Appel on charges of bribing Sharon, his son, Gilad, and Labor Trade and Industry Minister Ehud Olmert.

Palestinians easily scale Israel's $1.9 billion security fence

Palestinian infiltrators have succeeded in breaching Israel's new security fence and barrier system.
Israeli security sources said Palestinian infiltrators have scaled the four-meter high concrete fence by using a simple ladder. The Israeli project calls for the establishing of a 730-kilometer fence at a cost of $1.9 billion. Most of the project consists of a concrete wall or chain-link fence with sensors, cameras and military patrols. The infiltrators were deemed as Palestinians looking for work.

'US lied about deaths of journalists in the Palestine Hotel

The shelling of the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad by an American tank, which killed two journalists and injured two others, was an act of "criminal negligence", said a report by an international media watchdog.
